Far South Coast Cricket Association president Charles Aggenbach has previewed the clubs and wished everyone the best as they prepare to don the pads and measure their bowling runup.
Under 12s will start their season on Friday night, with the under 14s taking the field Saturday mornings. Under 10s will start in early November.
It’s never too late for parents to sign their child up on www.Playcricket.com.au.
The Under 12s will contest a north and south pool competition.
Battling it out in the north will be four teams from Bermagui Cricket Club (Blue and Yellow) and Southern Eurobodalla Cricket Club (Black and Yellow) which will provide tight cricket.
In the south pool there has been a late team entry with the Merimbula Knights Cricket Club entering another side in the already strong competition taking it to six teams all up.
Along with Merimbula Blue and Meirmula Red are teams from Eden, Tathra, Pambula and Bega/Angledale.
The under 12s will be a hotly contested competition. With only 20 overs and a maximum of nine players on the field at any one time anything can happen.
It shapes up as a great competition with some clubs having kids back up and play on the Saturday morning 14s competition.
“If you are around the local grounds on Friday nights at 5pm, you can see our local kids entertaining the crowds for free with fours and sixes, run-outs and highly skilled catches,” Aggenbach said.
On Saturday mornings, the Under 14s season gets underway.
“While the 14s is still more of a participation competition, this season will be one our association’s toughest competitions testing whether any of the six sides can really challenge Merimbula’s domination of the past decade of competition wins,” Aggenbach said.
“Each club has their go-to key players and leaders with Eden boasting some key rep players in Jessie, Morgan and Lawrie as well as others.
“Pambula will be looking to Bobby McAlpin and Libby Harley to lead them this season, Merimbula will be looking for premiership captain Daniel as well as Tyler, Amy and Sebastian in the field to continue the club’s dominance in the competition.
“Tathra and the two northern clubs Bermagui and South Eurobodalla boast many new and younger 14s – anything is possible if they find some quality form so look out the rest.
“And Bega should have an advantage playing on home turf first up. Look out for Sam Lever and Yasmin Welsford to guide the squad of players around.
“It is safe to say this season will a great tough battle for all the kids with some of them playing in their club’s C grade side or even their first division side.
“Most of all remember kids respect your coach or coaches, respect the umpire’s decision and always remember it’s not always about winning it’s about having fun,” Aggenbach said.
“Whether you take wickets, hit boundaries or you take catches, everyone else is out there to have the same amount of fun.
“A big thank you to the parents who take their child to their games and good luck to all our junior players in this season’s competitions.”
