FORMER Leeton shire resident and Canberra Raiders player Hayden Crockett will make his debut as a coach next season.  Crockett has signed on as the Cootamundra Bulldogs coach and wasn’t afraid of the challenge.  The 23-year old revealed he accepted the Bulldogs job despite better offers elsewhere and is not shying away from setting high expectations. Leeton born-and-bred, Crockett has had two seasons in the Queensland Cup – with Easts Tigers and Mackay Cutters, the feeder teams for the Melbourne Storm and North Queensland Cowboys respectively. Prior to moving to Queensland, he spent three seasons in the Raiders system and was part of their fulltime squad in 2013 until Ricky Stuart’s arrival at the club. Crockett hasn’t closed the door on a return to higher level rugby league with the coaching opportunity to broaden his experience.  “I’ll see how I go next year, sometimes you’ve got to take a step back to take two steps forward,” he said. But this year will be a big enough challenge in itself.”
