Great news on wharf grant
Great news about the grant. I fished the wharf as a kid in the late 50s and 60s. Remember it swaying in the heavy seas back then. Has survived this far, thank goodness. Great use of the wharf now, and looking forward to seeing new improvements.

Wharf a huge drawcard
This is a fantastic grant, allowing needed repairs to be undertaken. Thank you so much Andrew Constance. The wharf is integral to Tathra and a huge draw card for tourists and locals. Well done to all this involved in obtaining the money.

Consider roadside pickup
With the introduction of the hazardous disposal service, it is now time for BVSC to consider a yearly kerbside bulky waste collection policy. One council that has introduced such a scheme charge a small fee ($11.35) with the rates notice. Our shire has many ratepayers who have no access to any means to take bulky items to the tip.

Full support for GP concerns
I write to convey my full support for the health professionals who are raising concerns about Angus Taylor's "failure" in his role as Minister of Emissions (BDN, 9/11).
Australia had one of the highest levels of air pollution in the world during the 2019-2020 Black Summer. This is highly concerning because inhaling bushfire smoke will allow ultrafine and fine pollution particles to penetrate the human body through the lungs; causing numerous health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung problems.
The good doctors of Australia are rightly calling out on the federal government for urgent action on climate change, because climate change is a public health emergency.
This is also the wake up call for us all to each send a strong message to our politicians that we expect them to do more. Our and our children's health depend on it.

No advantage to boaters
Regarding the upgraded jetty opened October 18 at Top Lake Merimbula. As a local rate payer an invitation was received to the official opening. This was the first notification we had of the upgrade.
It was stated that boaters will have safer and easier access to Merimbula Lake. A sign was put up after the opening to instruct power boats to use the ramp at Arthur Kaine Drive, therefore cancelling the use of the new facility!
The crane for wheelchair access can only be used if the jetty access gate is open. During winter, the cafe is closed, therefore there is no access. Top Lake Boat Hire has done this to restrict the use of the jetty, yet the project said it was for all boaters.
The only person this expenditure of $127,100 of goverment money has benefited is the hire boat company, when it is open.
There is no advantage for tinny owners who could use the ramp on a regular basis.
