On March 12, Alicia Gauld, first dan black belt with Kokoro Kai Goju Karate (KKGK) NSW, competed in the NSW Australian Karate Federation state selections held at the Whitlam Centre in Sydney.
Trained, coached and supported by head of KKGK, Kancho Rob Graham (sixth dan blackbelt), Gauld won a hard fought second place (silver) in 35 years and above female Kumite (fighting), and a fiercely contested third place (bronze) in 45 years and above female Kata (forms), an amazing achievement considering the number of competitors across the state against whom Gauld had to compete.

"That in itself is a testimony to what you can achieve if you put you have discipline and will," the Candelo-based dojo said.
"However, in this case this is a truly amazing feat, as Alicia did this all with a broken toe!"
Gauld was successful in being selected for the Australian Karate Federation state team and also won the prestigious Sports Star of the Year Award.
"All at Kokoro Kai Goju are very proud of Alicia's achievements and wish her great success throughout 2022!"
