Tathra Public School will host a Christmas giving tree from Friday, December 7 as part of this year’s Bega District News and Merimbula News Weekly toy drive appeal.
Principal Lisa Freedman said the initiative is about giving back to the community after the town received a flood of support following the March bushfire tragedy.
The school’s P&C fundraising coordinator Deb Barker said it will help bring the school community together.
“It’s good for the kids to realise they are fortunate, because there are families out there who can’t afford Christmas presents,” she said.
Year 3 pupil Mali Whatmore said it’s important for kids across the Bega Valley to enjoy Christmas.
“We always get stuff, and everyone should be able to enjoy Christmas,” Year 3 pupil Sam Murray said.
Unwrapped presents can be left at the school from Friday, and until the school’s Christmas Fete on December 14.
