Anthony McMahon has been appointed as Bega Valley Shire Council's Chief Executive Officer for the duration of a five-year term.

The recruitment process for a CEO followed the departure of general manager Leanne Barnes who advised councillors of her intention not to seek a renewal of her contract in 2021.
In May 2021 director of assets and operations, Anthony McMahon stepped up into the role as acting CEO.
Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said the selection process to place a CEO was extensive and competitive, with the calibre of the applicants extremely high.
Twenty-five applications for the CEO role were received, with 10 invited to a preliminary interview.
Six candidates were invited to a face-to-face interview with the selection panel, before the final two were interviewed again earlier this month.
The initial assessment panel comprised the Mayor and Councillors Mitchell Nadin, Helen O'Neill and David Porter before the full Council making the final decision.
