"I found out yesterday that I'm actually in the finals, so that's exciting," Hannah told the BDN this week.
The Buy From the Bush Big Break competition saw businesses pitch their ideas to be in the running for prizes that act as a leg up in starting out, or supporting, rural business.
Hannah's idea, like many innovative ideas, had been brewing for a few years.
The concept is an environmentally friendly one that supports leaving a minimalist footprint, by sending out pre-owned novels to people's homes in bio-degradable wrapping.
The books will be chosen at random, removing the commitment and time consuming task of choosing a novel, and when finished, people will be able to send it back for it to be read by someone else.
"If you're the kind of person that loves buying books but then has no place to store them, then this might be for you," Hannah said.
Hannah said she also planned to leave a written review with each book she sends out, to help the reader gain a deeper understanding of the themes within the book.
"People want to be seen as well read and to have understood the books they've read, this summary would allow readers to speak more broadly about the book with others," she said.
iAccelerate Innovation Hub helps Hannah get started
Having recently finished the iAccelerate Innovation Hub program offered by the University of Wollongong, Hannah developed the very skills she'd need for her 'Big Break' pitch.
"I had the idea and was working on it during the iAccelerate program which finished a few weeks ago, then I saw this one advertised and had everything to go really, so it was great timing," Hannah said.
Hannah said the iAccelerator program helped her learn how to validate her ideas and identify ways her business would help solve problems.
"It just sort of takes you back to basics and checks that it's a genuine problem that people have, rather than just being like, 'oh, I really want to do this thing'," she said.
Hannah said she recommended anyone with business ideas to get involved in future Big Break competitions, as it has helped her gain exposure and experience.
"It's just such a great opportunity. The prize money is one thing, but it's more about the exposure and the access to people who can mentor you," she said.
Hannah said she also really enjoyed pitching her idea alongside other regional businesses and hearing about theirs.
"It's also just really cool to work with other people who appreciate to live in a regional area," she said.
Vote for Hannah in People's Choice award
Among the the three prizes involved, there's the people's choice, where anyone can jump online and choose one of the 20 entrants to vote for, finalist or not.
Winner of the People's Choice will receive a $15,000 prize, free subscription to the Buy From the Bush (BFTB) marketplace for a year and membership in the BFTB Business Club on Facebook.
Meanwhile, first place and runner-up both offer big cheques and bonuses.
