Corey Legge releases new single and music video based on his childhood in Bega

"I really wanted to write a song that talked about my experience of growing up here and how much I love the place and people, I think it's been a long time coming," Corey said.

The single has come out of his new album 'What Now?', which won't be released until early 2022.

Corey said the single has been very well received by people in the Bega Valley and the general public so far.

"It seems that a lot of people have been streaming the first single through Spotify, I've had a look recently and it's just about hit 2000 plays," Corey said.

Cemetery Kids' was written about Corey's first hand experience of growing up on farmland surrounding the Bega Cemetery.

The alt-country track evokes images of a childhood filled with wonder, freedom, humour and love, emphasising the importance of family and close-knit community ties in small country towns.

"I think a lot of locals have connected with it and it seems that everyone has a similar feeling about how nice it was to grow up in a country town and have those close community connections," Corey said.

The album was recorded and produced by multi-award-winning country producer Matt Fell at Love Hz Studios in Sydney.

The young talent earlier this year was ranked second in renowned Australia Country Radio charts for his alt-country track "I Don't Know What I've Got Myself in For".

Corey said the latest film clip is a tribute to his grandparents and growing up on 100 acres of farmlands near the cemetery.

The film clip features footage of what it was like growing up as a kid in the Bega Valley in the late 90s and early 2000, it also includes footage of Corey performing at Magpie Music and Bega West Public School concerts.

Corey received support in recording his third studio album, from funding he received from the CreateNSW grant.

The second single is set to drop later this year, Corey said he is hopeful to get back on tour, which has been postponed as a result of COVID-lockdowns.

Corey said "What now?" is a concept album that raises the questions a lot of people have been asking this past year on what comes next.

He said the album will be a recap on all the stories that emerge from the Black Summer bushfires and how everyone's dealing with COVID-19.

'Cemetery kids' reflects on Corey's childhood in Bega and he said the songs are a journey through to the current worries of 2021.
