Service NSW has updated its guidelines for the JobSaver assistance payment to allow more businesses in regional NSW to access financial support.
As Greater Sydney enters its tenth week in lockdown, and regional NSW its third, business owners are struggling to navigate the impacts on workflows, employees, clients, and government support packages.
Under the original eligibility requirements of JobSaver, businesses had to show a declined turnover between June 26 2021 to August 28 2021.
Now, the August 28 end date has been dropped and the decline in turnover testing can happen any time on or after June 26 2021.
The JobSaver payment will be backdated to the start of the lockdown for businesses who are eligible under the new guidelines.
Other eligibility conditions include a decline in turnover of at least 30 per cent and an obligation for businesses which have employees to keep them.
JobSaver was designed for businesses with aggregated turnover between $75,000 and $250 million for the year ended June 30 2020 but has now been amended to assist previously ineligible larger businesses in the hospitality, tourism and recreation fields.
The program has been extended to these sectors where the applicant has an aggregated annual turnover of more than $250 million and up to $1 billion.
Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand tax leader Michael Croker said Service NSW updating its guidelines provided much-needed clarity around the eligibility criteria for regional businesses.
"This is a huge win for regional NSW businesses, who went into lockdown later than Sydney, but are feeling the pinch and require a helping hand, right now," he said.
"Although JobSaver has always been accessible to regional businesses adversely impacted by the Greater Sydney lockdown such as tourism operators reliant on travellers from Sydney, businesses in regional NSW which have only been impacted since the commencement of regional lockdowns can now also apply."
