Eleven new state school campuses are opening as students from Clifton Creek Primary in the state's East Gippsland region begin the year at nearby Nicholson Primary after the former burnt down.
More than one million children are expected to pack their bags and head to class from Tuesday at government, private and Catholic schools.
It comes as a previously-announced $4 million is rolled out to boost psychological support for bushfire-hit schools, particularly in the alpine, East Gippsland and Towong areas, and another $3.8 million for a specialist trauma recovery program.
"It's been an especially tough time for students returning to school in areas affected by bushfire and I want to assure you students and staff are being provided the support they need," Education Minister James Merlino said.
Meanwhile, 60,000 prep students at more than 1200 state schools are starting the year with a free library bag and book bundle.
Free pads and tampons will continue being rolled out across all government campuses, with the program to be fully up and running by the middle of the year.
