A low pressure system over inland NSW is drawing humid air across eastern parts of the state causing widespread thunderstorm activity, the bureau of meteorology said.
The system is expected to gradually move to the Tasman Sea on Monday afternoon and evening.
Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Newcastle and Sydney are within the bureau's warning area.
The bureau said heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in the warning areas.
Nowra is expected to reach a top of 28 on Monday, 24 in Ulladulla and for Batemans Bay and Bega it's predicted to reach 26.
On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to remain similar to Monday with possible showers in Batemans Bay and Bega.
