Jan Whyte sent in the below story of this week's fire crisis as experienced by her family and neighbours at Brogo.
While devastating, it was also too good not to share.
"My husband, son, myself and Rob the neighbor across the road stayed on Israels Road to save our homes and saved the whole street.
"But my friend Murray on Quinlans Rd stayed to save their home and saved three other homes all by himself.
"He also gave shelter to two young people who thought Murray's wife had not yet left for town and came to his place for a ride.
"He had the added pressure of keeping them safe as well as saving his house and other people's.
"They lost their own shed with a lot of family things in it because they had their home on the market and did not want clutter.
"On top of that, between three of us we had just bought a large load of hay for our horses and had it stored in their big machinery shed on the property they were building on - and they lost everything on that block.
"Murray is beating himself up about losing his next door neighbour's home.
"He put water on it but by the time he got back to it it was on fire. He saved his neighbour's new double garage.
"He is one our unsung heroes. So many of them. Thank you."
