La Trobe University will recognise his efforts to support women and underprivileged children - along with his Bollywood achievements - during Mr Khan's visit to Melbourne for the Indian Film Festival.
Thousands of fans will attend Friday's ceremony for the award-winning actor and producer, with so much demand for tickets the university has created a site for it to be shown on screens.
At a film festival press conference on Thursday, Mr Khan said there were more opportunities and reasons to shoot Bollywood films in Melbourne.
Melbourne's large Indian population, and the increasing popularity of streaming services, made the Victorian capital a more viable location.
"Not just to come here for sunset dances. Make the place, the city, the country part of the story," he told reporters.
