The poker run, to be held on Saturday, February 16, is a major fundraising event underpinning the group’s support for Cancer Council NSW and Bega Valley CanAssist.
Last year’s event saw more than 150 motorbikes participate and more than $15,000 raised.
The Cancer Research Advocate Bikers (CRABS) have now raised nearly $350,000 for cancer research and assistance in less than 10 years.
The second annual poker run will see motorbikes rumble along the Far South Coast from Bermagui to Candelo, Pambula, Cobargo, Central Tilba and back to Bermagui.
Riders travel from point to point collecting a poker card at each stop. The winner is the person holding the best hand at the end of the ride.
The ride departs from the Bermagui Country Club at 10am on February 16. The first stop will be at Candelo Hotel and then on to the Pambula Top Pub for lunch. The ride will continue on to the Cobargo Hotel and the Dromedary Hotel at Central Tilba before concluding at the Bermagui Country Club later in the afternoon.
After the ride, Saturday night entertainment at the country club will include well-known local band Stretch Limousine who will entertain what will doubtless be a tired but enthusiastic group of riders.
“We are looking forward to another successful event focusing the support of our members and the community on the great work done by Cancer Council NSW and CanAssist,” event organiser Dave Thomson said.
Pre-registration for the poker run starts at Bermagui Country Club from 5.30pm on Friday, February 15, and registration will continue from 8am on the Saturday.
All money raised on the day will go to Cancel Council NSW and CanAssist.
“Cancer Council would like to acknowledge the outstanding fundraising efforts by the CRABS,” Caitlyn Zalewski, Cancer Council NSW community relations coordinator, said.
“This group of men tirelessly donate their time and skills to organise a number of local fundraising events across the Bega Valley community, driven by their commitment to supporting people living with cancer and their families.
“Funds donated to Cancer Council enables us to continue to support communities through prevention programs, information and support, access to accommodation services, free financial, legal and emotional support, transport to treatment as well as fund world class research projects.”
