Almost 20mm of rain fell on Bega in just over two hours on Tuesday afternoon.
A Bega Valley Shire Council spokesperson said no major damage was caused, and water damage to the front of the library had meant power to the building was turned off as a safety precaution.
“Staff are working hard towards making things safe, with the aim of being back up and running tomorrow (Thursday, February 6) – we will provide further updates on Facebook once we have confirmation,” the spokesperson said.
A small water leak near the gallery’s emergency exit forced its closure, and no artwork was in danger of damage, a gallery spokesperson said.
