The grudge match between the Campbell brothers saw the first set as a tie-breaker and then the following two sets 6-4 each a piece. This left everyone one wondering how the night would pan out, but Ryley’s combination proved too strong in late sets to defeat older brother Kyle’s outfit 32-22.
Jeff Kelly’s team continued on with their winning streak when they played Wayne Northey’s outfit – who were the undefeated team from last competition. Kelly’s roster were the clear winners on the night, winning all six sets, although one was a tie-breaker.
After a loss in round one, Corey Leahy’s team proved they were up to the task against John Willington’s team who had the opening round bye.
Both teams won three sets each but Corey was out in front with 28 games to John’s 21 in what organisers said was “a reasonably close result”.
Matt Kimber’s team had three substitutes on the night, which didn’t hurt at all as they carded a 30-22 win over Neyle’s outfit.
Matt and his band of fill-ins carded four set wins and forcing a tie-breaker in one of their two set losses.
Luke Keft’s team also bounced back from a first round loss when they defeated John O’Connor’s team 29-18.
This week, Keft’s team will have the bye.
Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us next week. We will only have the first week off during the school holidays.
