Essential Energy’s regional manager for the southern area, Sarah Roche, said crews were kept busy on Saturday afternoon, and into the night, responding to a range of power outages and incidents.
One outage was requested by the NSW Rural Fire Service as they continue to battle the Yankees Gap bushfire, while other outages were caused by vegetation coming into contact with powerlines, broken wires and damaged network equipment.
“Around 2,000 customers in Bermagui were affected by a power outage, with other outages affecting customers in the Tathra, Cobargo, Candelo and Moruya areas,” Ms Roche said.
“Supply was progressively restored to most customers by 11.30pm, however, a small number of customers in Candelo and Hawks Head Rd remained without supply overnight.
“The power outage in Hawks Head Rd was requested by the NSW Rural Fire Service in response to the escalation of the Yankees Gap Road fire.
“A small amount of electricity network was damaged by the fire with supply restored to all customers by 8pm Sunday evening.”
Ms Roche said residents should be cautious around fallen powerlines and other electrical hazards.
“Residents are reminded to report fallen powerlines, network damage, fires or trees contacting powerlines to Essential Energy on 13 20 80 or call Triple-0 if the situation is life threatening,” she said.
