The Bombala RSL Sub-Branch will receive $1,000 for the refurbishment of a display cabinet and the Bungendore War Memorial Committee will receive $1,295 for a new PA system.
“The Monaro has a rich history which is made even richer thanks to our local RSL Sub-Branches and War Memorial Committees, who are dedicated to the upkeep, maintenance and improvement of our various war memorials,” Mr Barilaro said..
“Under the Anzac Community Grants Program, more than $175,000 has been allocated for projects like these across NSW.
“This funding will assist communities as they protect and repair local war memorials, and support projects to allow them to properly commemorate the service and sacrifice of service men and women.”
Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott said a total of $126,760 across 21 projects under the Community War Memorials Fund had been invested across the state, with a further $49, 951 for another 43 projects under the Anzac Community Grants Program.
“These memorials have significant heritage value and meaning for their communities, with some commemorating conflicts as far back as the Boer War representing more than a century of architectural design history in regional NSW,” Mr Elliot said.
“As we commemorate the Centenary of the Armistice it is important that young people understand the sacrifices made during the First World War.”
The NSW Government is now calling for applications in the latest round of Community War Memorial Funding, which is open until Anzac Day.
“New grants of up to $10,000 are now available and I encourage all of our local war memorial management committees to apply for funding for the conservation and protection of our important local monuments.” Mr Barilaro said.
