The casual position for the Nowsy Monaro Re’ginal council is seeking a Platypus Training Officer “to fill a multi disciplinary role training platypus to perform at the Bombala viewing platform and encourage them to assimilate with swimmers and divers adjacent to the platform while communicating with the general public and platypus viewers”.
The sign first popped up at the Bombala Newsagency on the notice board at the front of the shop.
“It just appeared. Just over a week ago someone came into the shop and said you have a very amusing poster on your notice board,” newsagency proprietor Dave Goodyer said.
“It could have been there for a couple of days, we did notice and it wasn’t us that put it there,” he said.
It appears that someone is having a dig at the Snowy Monaro Regional Council about the half completed platypus platform located on the Bombala River near the bridge.
“The ABC did a really good story on it last week,” Mr Goodyer said. “They even had a guy from National Parks on the radio talking about training platypus.
“Apparently it can’t be done.”
The poster goes on to say that applicants must be qualified in platypus management and a degree in platypus administration would be an advantage. “Applications close on the completion of the viewing platform,” it said.
A spokesperson for the Snowy Monaro Regional Council said council was waiting for handrails for the platform to be designed.
“They will be installed across the front of the platform as per the Building Code of Australia requirements.
“Installation is expected to be completed in early January and then it will be inspected by a structural engineer.”
