Officials said the Quaama Tennis Club formed nearly five years ago for the sole purpose of restoring the old clay courts that had been out of action for over 20 years.
“It’s been a long drawn out process from lease transfers to numers working bees, fundraising events, community Christmas parties, too many raffles to mention and all the paperwork,” a spokeswoman for the committee said.
It’s a small group, but they’ve strived hard to get the job done.
Members said they specifically needed to thanke the Bowerbird op-shop in Cobargo for their generous donations over the past few years.
“We could have never got it done without them,” the spokeswoman said. “We also greatly thank Di Manning for starting the committee five years ago.”
Officials said they were “finally ready to open the gates and play some tennis” and everyone is invited to head along and join in the fun on Sunday from 2pm.
There will be a free barbecue, while everyone is urged to bring an esky and their racquet for a few social drinks and a fun hitout.
“Enjoy a drink and a game, or just give some moral support, some friendly heckling would be welcome too,” the spokeswoman said with a laugh. Club memberships will also be on offer for $5 for a year or $15 for families.
