About 446 firefighters from around the country took part in challenge to climb 98 storeys with 1504 steps of the Sydney Tower Eye (Centrepoint Tower) dressed in their full firefighting kit to raise money for MND research.
Firefighter Lavender who climbed the tower last year did a PB finishing his climb in 20 minutes and 11 seconds while Firefighter Anderson in his first attempt did it in 23 minutes.
“Last year the adrenaline was pumping before I started the climb, but this year I was just nervous,” firefighter Lavender said.
The men were dressed in their full structural Personal Protection Equipment of over pants and jacket, helmet and breathing apparatus.
“It’s funny, you go through a lot of different experiences on the way up and you know it’s going to bite you somewhere around 40 to 50 storeys up,” Lavender said.
“There were so many volunteers helping and as soon as we crossed the finish line they helped us get our gear off, which was a really good feeling.”
On Sunday the event was very close to raising their target of $500,000. Bombala Station 230 thanks everyone that donated.
