Following a $100,000 Club Grant which has been matched by Bombala Council, the building should start taking shape under the guidance of local builder Alan Walker.
According to Bombala Council’s Economic Development Manager Karen Cash, it is anticipated to be a fast build.
“It’s going to be a fairly basic structure because it has to be in keeping with the other heritage buildings on the land provided,” Ms Cash said.
The new Visitors Information and Cultural Centre will be much better setup for selling local products and there will be more information about the area and its culture for visitors available.
Ms Cash said there would be information about the Bundian Way, as well as timber and agricultural displays depicting the history of the area.
“It will house a small gallery displaying local artists works and there will be interactive displays and videos.
“The new centre will really enhance the other activities on the railway land including the Old Bombala Railway, the Antique Machinery Shed and the Monaro Country Lavender Coop,” Ms Cash said.
Plans are in place to turn the original Visitors Information Centre into a folk museum
Bombala Council is also working on a new dump point for RVs vans to get rid of their grey water.
“The new dump point needs to be in place before they put signage up to say that Bombala is an RV friendly town, which will be good.
“The new Visitors and Cultural Centre is going to add to the day trip appeal to the Bombala area and will also be a better destination for coach tours.
“All of this should see a flow on to local businesses which is good for the town,” Ms Cash said.
Bombala Council is hoping that the new centre will be ready by spring.
