Stafford was recognised for his ongoing service to the club and was just one of many thanked during the presentations.
Senior grade skipper Luke Taylor said “no one was more deserving than Johnny”.
“He’s been with the club for about 12 years and his grandsons have gone through the club,” Taylor said.
“He loves the club, it’s like a 12 month gig for him, he’s been my right hand man in my time and helped with jumpers and team lists.”
One of his grandsons Jason Ainsworth wrapped up his second best and fairest, despite playing just eight games for Tathra this year.
“He also finished fifth in Maroochydore, which is where he moved to,” Taylor said with a laugh.
“It’s a fantastic effort for him really, to do that off eight games is remarkable and his start to the season was a brilliant spectacle.”
In other senior awards, Taylor was named Players’ player, while Reggie O’Loghlin was awarded as the best goal kicker.
Most consistent winner was Cam Burns, while Tom Lipsham was named the squad’s most improved.
The club person of the year was Chris Burns, while the president’s award went to Greg Coman.
In the development grade Finny Crowley claimed the coveted best and fairest title.
David Little was runner-up in the count and Matt McCambridge received the coaches award for his service.
About 70 people turned out for the awards night and Taylor said he was grateful to everyone who helped out on the night.
“Kerry Parbery ran the powerpoints and slideshows for us and Julie Warren with her photography, it helped so much.”
He said organisers were pleased with the turnout and everything went off without a hitch.
The Christmas party is the next event on the calendar.
