The Strickland's took out the Trusting at Turangga Farm sprint with their up-and-coming gelding Jungle Edge.
The prize of a free service to Turangga Farm’s stallion, Trusting, worth $11,000, is the first time the Hunter Valley-based stud has donated such a generous prize to a SCTC race meet.
The Stricklands are very excited at the prospect of sending their broodmare, Looks Good in Black, to the stud this week.
Trusting is a renowned name, and winner of three Group 2 races.
“I think it's a really good idea to offer a free stallion service as a prize,” Ms Strickland said.
SCTC president, Robyn Bain, said the win was a bonus for the local trainers.
“As they have always bred horses, it's important for the Stricklands ... so it's a very good service they picked up,” Ms Bain said.
Looks Good in Black is a locally bred horse, bought as a weanling from the late Roy and Rosemary Irvin's Bemboka stud.
“She was bred by Roy and when she came to us she was about eight months old,” Ms Strickland said.
“She now has a yearling and is due to foal on September 18, so will have to go to the stud in the Hunter Valley this week or it will be too late to move her.”
Looks Good in Black will have the foal at the stud and then be served by Trusting within three weeks of the birth.
“Once she has that foal, we will give her a year off,” Ms Strickland said.
