The Bemboka Lions Club will be bringing some Christmas cheer to the village on Sunday when it hosts a Christmas fair from 10am until 3pm at Colombo Park.
As usual there will be the famous Lions barbecue, raffles with lots of fabulous prizes, stalls selling toys, plants and homemade pickles and a Far South Coast Birdwatchers information stall.
There will be escorted walks through the nature trails at Bemboka River Reserve, which have been restored by Bemboka Landcare.
The pupils from Bemboka Public School choir will sing and Santa will make an appearance at 11am on the fire truck!
For more information contact Bemboka Lions president Andrew Judge on 6493 0240.
Christmas will also be coming to Tathra this weekend, with the Tathra Hospital Auxiliary hosting its annual Christmas fair on Sunday from 9am until noon.
The fair at Tathra Hall will have a range of stalls including homemade Christmas cakes and puddings, slices, sweets and cakes, pre-loved books, plants, craft, chocolate wheel and raffles plus Devonshire tea and a sausage sizzle.
For those who just want to see Santa, he will be arriving at Bega’s Sapphire Marketplace on December 6 with a little help from the local Rural Fire Service.
In Cobargo, local identity Dave Rugendyke will be bringing his annual dose of Christmas cheer to town by playing Santa from December 1 outside the pharmacy in Cobargo.
As Christmas approaches, fairs will give way to carol nights.
Sapphire Coast Anglican College will hold a family carol night on December 4, which will also include a barbecue.
In Bermagui, the Four Winds sound shell will host carols on December 20 with 60 singers and a six-piece band.
Choirs on stage will include Bega Street Choir, That Bunch of Singers, HeartSong, Bega Valley Children’s Choir and students from Bermagui Primary School, Bermagui Preschool, Little Lambs Preschool, Little Yuin Aboriginal Preschool and Cobargo Preschool.
Under 12s are free and all other tickets are $10 plus booking fee; online bookings preferred at www.fourwinds.com.au.
Don’t forget Bega’s Christmas Wonderland on December 11 at Littleton Gardens, which will be a family-friendly night of festive entertainment.
Christmas is also a time to think about those less fortunate, and with that in mind the BDN has partnered with Bega Lions, Bega Rotary and the Sapphire Coast Ulysses Club to hold a Christmas Toy Drive.
Unwrapped gifts can be left at the BDN office on the corner of Gipps and Carp St, Bega, and will be distributed to children by Bega Salvos and Vinnies, Bega District Hospital and Anglicare.
Mission Australia also has its annual giving tree where wrapped gifts for children can be left with a tag identifying the age and gender of the recipient at Mission's office at Ayres Walkway, Bega.
