Donahue, from the Narooma Golf Club, recorded the best score seen on the Bega Country Club course in some time, shooting a 73 to take the title.
A 4BBB event was also held on Saturday, with the Bega teams of Tammy Edmonds and Kerry Carter (scratch) and Elyse Cuzner and Gay Ward (handicap) taking the honours.
Club captain Robyn Kilkelly said participation numbers for the annual tournament were up on recent years, with golfers travelling from as far north as Wollongong, south from Mallacoota and west from Queenbeyan to take part.
“Our girls travel well, and I think the fact that we support the other clubs means they’re more likely to come and support us,” Mrs Kilkelly said.
“But perhaps it’s just because it’s a good tournament, and I’d like to think that’s why it is.
“Some of the people from coastal clubs would’ve had no idea what a good frost looks like, but they would have found out [on Sunday morning],” she joked.
“It was very cold early, but as the day went on it turned into absolutely beautiful conditions for golf.
“The score of 73 off the stick from Sylvia Donahue is the best score we’ve had on the course for a very long time.
“The course record is 70, and that has stood for a long time, but 73 is pretty special.”
It was a solid outing for the host club, with Bega scooping all but one of the division one awards, with Wendy Hergenhan winning the scratch from Elyse Cuzner, and Kerry Carter named handicap champion ahead of Tammy Edmonds.
Nearest the pin went to Lisa McBean of the Pambula-Merimbula Club.
Eden also performed well, with its members taking the top two spots in the division two and three scratch.
Other award winners came from the Queanbeyan, Bermagui and Mollymook clubs on Sunday, while Tathra was represented in the Saturday honours list.
Mrs Kilkelly said the tournament had been “highly successful”, and noted the support of local businesses, including LJ Hooker, Bega Cheese, Betta Electrical, Lifestyle Boutique and Plevey’s Pharmacy.
“We’re all supporting each other, as you do in country towns,” she said.
“The sponsorship really makes it a financial success for us, and we support the hospital auxiliary.
“On the Saturday they provide lunch, but on the Sunday we do it ourselves and everyone brings something along.”
