Celebrate the grand finale of Festival of the Face by watching BigFace go up in flames!
If you haven’t already seen him, click here to see the Tulgeen Riverside Nursery crew in action constructing a huge – and flammable – face for Saturday night’s bonfire.
Entertainment, food and hot drinks will be available and entry is only a gold coin donation.
So grab your blankets and a beanie and head to the Old Bega Racecourse from 3pm Saturday.
BigFace gets torched at dusk (about 5pm).
2&3. Beaten, Cactus and Ruins!
No, we are not advocating weekend rough and tumble.
A huge line-up of neo-funk, soul and blues is heading the Bega Valley’s way, with two gigs in particular on scales both big and intimate.
What on earth are we talking about?
Tonight (Friday, June 27), the Murrah Hall is playing host to Sydney nine-piece soulful outfit Beaten Bodies, who in turn are being supported by a 10-piece Melbourne funk band The Cactus Channel!
A massive night sure to have the Murrah thumping.
Then on Saturday night, dial it back a notch with Bega band The Blue Ruins at Nook Café in Rixon’s Arcade (the little walk-through next to Plevey’s Pharmacy).
The Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award exhibition at the Bega Valley Regional Gallery closes on July 5.
If you haven’t already seen the array of exquisite portraiture work by some of Australia’s best artists – or even if you have – you owe it to yourself to wander through the gallery.
This nationally renowned exhibition only comes around every two years so don’t miss out.
5. Group 16 Rugby League match of the round
The Bega Roosters host the Tathra Sea Eagles on Sunday with both sides playing for the Glyn Deacon Memorial Shield.
The annual clash is in honour of a great club man and both sides will be keen to claim the shield.
The Roosters ran rampant over Cooma last week, despite plenty of time off the field with successive byes and a washout.
However, the as-yet-winless Tathra is sure to put on a good showing for the local derby as always - last year's game ended in a hard-fought 20-all draw!
League-tag from noon, reserves at 1pm and first grade at 2.30pm.
