FESTIVAL of the Face isn’t all about art.

A public event in Littleton Gardens this Saturday will showcase many of the faces that make up this wonderful community.

Around 20 community groups will be represented at the Faces of the Community event, to be held in the gardens from 8.30am until 1.30pm.

One of the Festival of the Face organisers - and Bega Chamber of Commerce president – Mal Barnes said the event will cover a wide range of services.

“It will really showcase what we do as a community - and how we all contribute to the community,” Mr Barnes said.

“Some will be using the day as a fundraiser or to share information about their service, or even as a membership drive.”

Mr Barnes said groups involved will include Bega branches of Rotary, Lions and Scouts, Rural Fire Service and Volunteer Rescue Association brigades, surf lifesavers, the Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN) and Friends of the Old Bega Hospital to name a few.

There will also be entertainment on the day, including a performance by pupils from Tanja Public School.

The boys from Bega Scouts will be cooking up some pancakes for breakfast, Rotary will have egg and bacon rolls available and Lions will be putting on its usual sausage sizzle lunchtime barbecue.

The day will also see the completion of the “Giant Knitting Nancy”, with Mr Barnes keen to see everyone adding stitches to the already 30-metre long creation.

“Hopefully by lunch time we will have it long enough to create a huge face on the grass of Littleton Gardens,” he said.

Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Festival of the Face continues with a short film showcase at ReArtVision – the re-purposed exhibition space in the former Bega Retravision store – from 6pm.

All are welcome.
