A series of activities will be held on Saturday and Sunday as the 2014 Tathra Wharf to Waves hits the beach.
Since its inception in 2002, the Wharf to Waves has drawn large numbers of competitors and spectators for its fun run, bike ride and swimming competitions.
Wharf to Waves organising committee representative Therese Wheatley said preparations were looking good for the two-day event.
“It’s all on track,” she said.
“We expect it will bring a lot of people to town.
“As well as locals, people come from up and down the coast, Albury, Wodonga, Wagga Wagga and Canberra.”
In 2013, the Wharf to Waves was held on the January long weekend.
Ms Wheatley said organisers had pushed this year’s event back to the traditional date of the third weekend in January.
“It was held on the long weekend last year, so a lot of our regular holidaymakers missed out,” she said.
“Having it on the long weekend was good last year because it introduced a burst of new people.
“We send a call-out for those first-timers from last year to come back.
“The Wharf to Waves brings thousands of people to town – it extends the holiday feel in Tathra and it keeps business going.”
All funds raised from the Tathra Wharf to Waves go towards supporting the Tathra Surf Life Saving Club, Tathra Preschool and the Tathra Rural Fire Service.
Last year, the event helped raise $32,000.
The Wharf to Waves donated $15,000 to the surf club and preschool, and $2000 to the Tathra RFS.
Ms Wheatley said the committee hopes to reach a similar figure in 2014.
The action will begin on Saturday with the Coastlife Tathra Beach 2km Fun Run at 2.30pm, followed by the bike ride from 5pm, starting at the Tarraganda fire shed.
On Sunday, the swimming events will get underway from 8.30am.
A series of 600m age races will be held from the Tathra Wharf, where a specially designed platform is attached for the swim.
The main swimming race, the 1200m Finn’s Pest Control Splash for Cash, will start at 11.30pm.
Outside of the water, the Tathra Public School P&C committee will be hosting a market day from 10am until 2pm.
There will be up to 25 stalls selling a variety of home-grown and produced items, including cakes and slices, honey, clothing, jewellery and soaps.

To complete the weekend, the Truck Brothers will be playing at the Tathra Surf Club from 5pm.
Refreshments will be available and Mal’s Pizza Bite will supply pizzas.
