Narooma High School off to a swimming start

There was great attendance at both the race and novelty events in the whole-of-school carnival.

Keen and enthusiastic athletes were in the pool warming up by 7.30am ahead of the full-day carnival.

Dion Cafe, the school's head teacher of PDHPE, said the winning school house was Gulaga, followed by Baranguba, Wagonga and Corunna.

"The staff versus senior students relay was a highlight with the students getting the win," Mr Cafe said.

The winning 13-year-old swimmers were Amelia Manning and Jesse Lawrence.

Evie Bailey and Henry Durnan were the champion 14-year-olds, while Cate Allery and Ashton Washbrook took the honours for the 15-year-olds.

In the 16-years age group, Kya Rixon and Aaron Merlino were the champions and Jesse Doull and Austin McKee excelled in the 17-years age group.

Mr Cafe said the Eurobodalla zone carnival will be held in Narooma on Friday, February 23.

Swimmers from high schools in Batemans Bay, Braidwood, Narooma, Bega, Jindabyne and Monaro will compete against each other.

"The top two swimmers in each event get the opportunity to qualify for the regional swimming carnival which is held in Dapto," Mr Cafe said.

"There they will compete against the whole south coast and south inland."

The top three qualifiers at the regional in Dapto will then go on to the Combined High School state swimming competition at Homebush in Sydney.

Mr Cafe said last year Jesse Doull competed in the Combined High School 100 metres breaststroke.

He said the school's swimming carnival on Tuesday, February 6, was a great day for the students.

"For Year 7 students it was their first carnival with us so it is a lovely way to get team spirit and camaraderie at the start of the year."
