Prison for shark killing
My children live in Tathra. Shark killing should attract a prison sentence. There is no need to kill sharks, they might kill people who kill sharks.

Shark ban is stupidity
This whole thing about shark fishing is plain and simple bull. People want to fish, it's a fishing wharf, so let them fish. No-one try's to stop you from mountain biking so why stop people fishing?
You say bloodied sharks attract predators which is known to be wrong. When a shark is caught and released they will immediately leave the area and in most instances never return.
Sharks are creature of habit, it's been proven they return to places they have had food or things like that but they won't return to a place where they have been injured.
Me personally I did at one stage shark fish regularly and I can truthfully say that it was a absolute rarity that they were killed and eaten, as most shark meat is high in mercury and is deadly to eat.
So I believe strongly that this stupidity is ended and shark fishing is unprohibited.
If you have legitimate proof of anything against the shark fishermen of Tathra let me know. If not I strongly recommend you back off!

Who's enforcing shark ban?
Who is responsible for enforcing the no shark fishing laws?
On numerous occasions I've had this conversation with young local fisher people, and they have been concerned that fishing from the wharf will end up being banned if the few fisher people doing the wrong thing (targeting and catching sharks) don't stop.
No-one seems to take responsibility for the consequences of these actions!
Everyone is aware of the laws and why it's not acceptable behaviour.

Tiny home DA disappointment
I had no idea this was proposed until I saw a post in Cobargo Bermagui community Facebook page. Where was it advertised? Did they have a meeting in Cobargo for all residents to attend? The buildings look like caravan park cabins.
I am so very sorry to have seen this application pass, larger blocks would have been more sensible. Disappointed. Oh well, next council election I will know who not to vote for.

So much for privacy
On Wednesday, April 20, I received a phone call from a chap named Dion. Dion, from Jindabyne, works for Kristy McBain, the member for Eden Monaro. He was ringing to ask me if I needed any assistance completing my postal vote!
What I wanted to know from Dion, is how the hell did he know that I'd applied for a postal vote, and how did he get my phone number?
Unbelievably, he told me that all my personal information, given on my postal vote application, is on the AEC database and accessible to all political parties!
On the AEC web page, it states categorically, "The AEC does not disclose telephone numbers from the electoral roll". Obviously this does not extend to the postal vote application database!
So, if anyone else is considering a postal vote, be aware that everything you put on our application will end up "open slather" for all those who wish to access it.
So much for privacy.

New skate park a poor choice
I have never seen a skate park that looks attractive or unmarked by graffiti. A poor decision in my opinion. Fishpen is a beautiful area which will be brought down by this choice.

Treasure of a fundraiser
Bega Valley Can Assist's Trash and Treasure Sale on March 19 was an outstanding success, with over $3000 raised to help us support cancer patients in the Bega Valley.
Phone, medical and food bills, medical appointments and accommodation are some of the many things we help with as patients fight their cancer battle.
Since Bega Valley Can Assist was founded in 2004, over $731,000 has been raised and donated to this cancer cause.
We'd like to thank the Bega District News and other media for their support, and especially everyone who donated items and came to spend their money on the numerous bargains that were on offer. We couldn't do it without you.

Hands off national parks
It's very disappointing to see how short sighted people have become regarding development in our national parks.
These are our parks, the people of Australia and visitors that are interested in our beautiful heritage. Not in glamping.
Who's going to oversee that the developers are going to do the right thing to dispose of grey water, sewage, rubbish and so on? Once they're in they take over tracks and do whatever is the easiest and cheapest way to make money. This has been proven.
The park should be taken care of for the future for wildlife, flora and fauna and people that want to enjoy the bush in their beautiful wilderness. Keep you hands off our national parks!
