Local veterans and RSL sub-branch members faced changes to the rules governing road closures and traffic management plans provided by council, which indicated licensed traffic controllers would be needed at multiple points.
In the past, moving barriers and signage and manning barricades has been carried out by volunteers but costs across the Bega Valley for Anzac Day services in 2022 could reach many thousands of dollars. ACM understands the costs for this year only have been paid by the RSL NSW branch.
President of the Eden RSL sub-branch Steve Mahoney said the costs for Eden Anzac Day traffic control was $1300, and if they had to pay each year it would send the Eden sub-branch broke in a couple of years, he said.
"We've never had to pay for traffic control in the past and this is an Australian National holiday."
