Work is underway on the Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club's new jetty at Spencer Park with an anticipated finish date at the end of April according to Lyn Brighton, general manager and owner of Seaslip Pontoon Products, a specialist manufacturer and installer of marine infrastructure.

Just before Easter the company was removing the old boards from the walkway out to the jetty, which although belongs to the fishing club, is also a much-loved facility enjoyed by visitors and locals at Spencer Park.
"We have prepared new piles and repaired some existing piles; Fisheries don't allow anything to be replaced unless it is essential," Ms Brighton said.
The walkway sections were constructed at the South Nowra factory ready to the slotted and bolted into place at Spencer Prk.

"The walkway is our design, it's polypropylene, fire retardant and has a warranty of 15 years. It's a very harsh environment and every location is different.
"We're using an aluminium frame with stainless steel fixings and all products are recyclable," Ms Brighton, a marine engineer and master mariner explained.
The timber piles and jetty will be removed from the water using barges and replaced with a floating pontoon and access gangway.

Ms Brighton had hoped to start the project earlier.
"We schedule work around the tides and from March 28 the tides were perfect but we couldn't get the barges down," she said.
Ironically the barges were flooded in at Newcastle and had to be lifted out by crane and put on the back of a truck.
A barge is expected April 20, with the piles to be in by the end of the week and then the pontoon put in place the during week starting April 25, providing there are no disruptions due to the weather.
