The Bega Chamber of Commerce and Industry this week presented Big W with a new trophy for winning the Retail category at the recent Customer Service and Business awards.

What attendees at February's awards night didn't see was the broken trophy.
Just before the awards ceremony began, Bega Chamber president John Watkin was moving the cover that was hiding the trophies alongside the stage when one of them fell over and broke in half.
Of course the show must go on so when Big W was pronounced the winner and the team made their way to the stage, the presenters had to quietly whisper to them that the trophy was in fact broken.
"Obviously they took it well but were also extremely happy and proud to finally be presented with their new trophy today, in one piece," Mr Watkin said this week.

"It was a privilege to pass on to the team at Big W that they had received nominations in both Junior Male and Female along with Senior Male and Female.
"And of course they had Annette Haigh finish in highly commended for Senior Female, and Tom Marshman the store manager was the winner of the Senior Male, along with the store winning the retail category.
"Great customer service would be expected from small owner operator businesses, but not necessarily from big box department stores, and so it was a real testament to all the staff at Bega Big W that they are doing a great job," Mr Watkin said.
