Some really good size southern calamari are being taken from the Merimbula Wharf, evidently attracted to the prawns that are now running with the warming waters and no moon.
Attracted to the squid are occasional kingfish with a 1.2m fish taken at the wharf using squid bait. The wharf's luderick season has not really got going though a few fish have already been taken.
For trevally and luderick try as well the Spencer Park jetty.
For our bottom droppers, there are good flathead off Bithry Inlet north of Tathra, off Kianinny, Tura Headland, Short Point and at Eden off the chipmill wharf in 25m water depth. Fresh yellowtail make a great bait for ocean flathead.
Morwong are reporting from Haycock and at 25m depth off Boyds Tower at Eden.
Really good trevally, bream, whiting and dusky flathead are active in the Merimbula Lake channel also the Top Lake where some large duskies are beginning to bite. Best spots are along the drop-offs, at the edge of the weed beds. Best on the rising tide. Try soft plastics and pilchards.
Reports of a bumper prawn run are to hand with good catches in Merimbula Lake along the sands near the airport, also the eastern side of Curalo Lagoon in Eden, plus commercially in Twofold Bay. Try Wallagoot Lake as well for the next run in late December.
Down at Twofold Bay we have good dusky flathead and bream in the Kiah River. In Pambula Lake bream, trevally and tailor are taking both pilchard baits and soft plastics. Good results from among the oyster leases.
In the Bega River best results for dusky flathead and bream come from the wall area near the launching ramp and down towards the entrance at Mogareeka.
