A local transgender woman has jumped on the bandwagon, starting not one, but two shows, both revolving around one theme - diversity.
Kate Toyer, a vet from the Eurocoast Veterinary Centre has taken it upon herself to create two podcasts, one focusing on diversity within the veterinary industry and one which looks at how her transition affected her close family and friends.
Initially, the idea for the veterinary podcast titled 'The Veterinary Kaleidoscope' came from the organisation "Australian Rainbow Vets".
The organisation, which both Kate and her wife Tara are members of, focuses on LGBTQI diversity within the industry.
"There's lots of diversity in the industry", Kate said.
"There's racial diversity, cultural diversity, physical diversity and language diversity."
The podcast is co-hosted by Cam Raw, an aboriginal man from the Palawa people.
The pilot episode, which was released four weeks ago, involved Kate and Cam discussing what the podcast was going to be.
"We've just recorded our second episode which was recorded with a profoundly deaf veterinarian." Kate said.
"Which I know, makes you sort of go, how does that work? But it was awesome. It was so good."
Kate said that the main idea of the podcast was to break down the assumption that some people cannot do certain things due to their circumstances.
Her second podcast, "Transitions from the Outside" gives her close family and friend's the opportunity to tell their stories of how Kate's transition affected them.
"I'll be asking them what their feelings were and how they reacted to me transitioning", she said.
Kate said there was plenty of podcasts and media outlets where trans people would talk about their transition and how they felt, but there was a lack of stories about how the people around them felt.
"One of the really common questions I'm asked is 'how did the kids cope?'", she said.
"I always feel really embarrassed answering that question.
"I can't say how they coped or didn't cope, I'm not them. That's their story."
The first episode of the podcast focuses on Kate's children, Elise, Rhian and James.
In the short episode, the three kids talk about how their dad's transition affected them.
"Mostly, I think it was just Elise bagging me out about my fashion sense", Kate said.
The podcast will be a limited run, but Kate hopes it will allow her close family and friends to tell their stories.
'The Veterinary Kaleidoscope' and 'Transitions from the Outside' are available to listen to on Spotify, Podbean and will soon be available on Apple Podcasts.
