Unfortunately, the extension to that lockdown, announced on Thursday, means that even a digital format event set to run at Club Sapphire has also been put on the back burner.
Turf club marketing coordinator Jess O'Donnell said it was an unfortunate turn of events with the club now looking to delay its major fundraiser until early in 2022.
She said a number of high profile race identities had been lined up to join a digital fundraising dinner at Club Sapphire on August 28, but the lockdown extension meant it was just not possible to go ahead.
The Sapphire Coast was among 34 destinations named to host the Melbourne Cup trophy on its annual tour with the local club getting a chance to be a part of a $50,000 sweep for a nominated charity.
Ms O'Donnell said the Sapphire Coast Turf Club had nominated the Sapphire Coast Justice Advocates as their charity of choice for their work aiding those in need.
