The couple met at Bega High School. They are two young people with Down Syndrome who share a flat in Merimbula.
They are supported to live independently and have been actively working in the community since leaving school.
The location of their flat allows them to walk to work, picnic in the park, and go to Topfun for their 10-pin bowling league games.
Amanda has worked as a waitress at Sapphire Club Merimbula since she left school and prior to that worked at McDonald's in Merimbula.
She loves her waitressing job, "I get to talk to people, take coffees to people and collect plates."
Tim worked at the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre before its closure during COVID-19 and prior to that at two Tathra venues. Tim now works as a "dishy" at Mormors Café.
On Saturday, August 7, the couple got engaged. Although Tim had been practicing getting down on one knee, when he got home he was so excited he just pulled out the box and said "Da dum!".
When Amanda asked what it was he said, "It's your engagement ring Amanda".
Most of the plans for the wedding have already begun and Amanda has already started to collect glossy wedding magazines for inspiration.
They want to hold their engagement party at Amanda's brother's property that has a stage where they often love to sing and dance.
They want to get married on the beach and hold the reception at Valentina in Merimbula. Amanda has already decided there will be champagne, beers and cocktails at the wedding.
Amanda has started searching for her dream dress and when asked what flowers she would chose said she "loves all flowers," and Tim is happy to buy a new suit for the big day, as long as it's "light blue".
To hopefully have family attend the wedding, it will be scheduled for next year.
Amanda has relatives who live in Melbourne and Tim has family in Tasmania. They hope to be able to honeymoon in Tasmania after the wedding.
"My grandpa died but If he was here I'd tell him, 'I've got a girl, I've got my girl'," said Tim.
