Other areas such as Bega and Tathra received very little rainfall since the heavy downpours on Tuesday and early Wednesday morning, recording only 3mm of rain in the 24 hours to Friday 9am.
Merimbula however, received a sudden downpour starting at 3pm, with 52mm of rain falling by 5pm Thursday.
42.6mm fell in just 30 minutes between 3-3.30pm!
The unanticipated heavy rain caused the main street to flood, but this didn't deter people from driving through it - and for some it didn't slow them down either.
Complaints were made on Facebook on driver behaviour in the wet after seeing video taken by Kim Bowden and posted on the Merimbula News Weekly Facebook page.
The main concern other than driving through flood water was that the fast drivers might have caused the water to be pushed inside the stores either side from the spray and waves of water.
