It feels private, like no-one else is sharing it, although intellectually we know the world is suffering a much greater nightmare than we could even contemplate.
Why couldn't we be like the Northern Territory, not one case of community transmission, never?
One sniff of coronavirus and Victoria's Premier is holding press conferences at 10.30 at night.
Face masks are back, not that they ever went, more restrictions and stay tuned, there could be worse to come.
The debate over hotel quarantine has been re-ignited too - especially as this Victorian case comes so shortly after the Western Australian security guard contracted the UK strain of the virus.
At least this time the borders haven't shut - not just yet anyway, but there are new rules in place in Queensland, South Australia, and Tasmania for those travelling from Melbourne hotspots.
Victoria has had the "worse" part already - the deaths in aged care homes, the lockdowns, the jobs lost, businesses closed, families ripped apart.
Already hundreds are in self-isolation with this new case.
Fingers crossed this latest case is just a one blip, a tiny outbreak perhaps which can be stomped on fast.
Unfortunately we seem to be getting good at that.
Stomping on things, that is.
In Australian terms, it feels like Victoria has had the worst of the pandemic so far, because it has.
There was a united "oh no" chorus from the population when they awoke to the news this morning.
If we hear one rich, overseas tennis player bleating about being locked up again, we'll collectively lose it.
(The Australian Open grand slam is set to continue as planned in case you were wondering)
COVID-19 is not going to go away, no matter how much the world wishes it could wish it away.
Victoria has a lot of fresh scars which will take a long time to heal, this morning reinforced that yet again.
