Kalina Koloff, spokesperson for Laing O'Rourke, was speaking as part of one of Bega Valley Shire Council's live video updates on social media on Wednesday, April 8.
She said over 100 properties, both insured and uninsured, have been inspected already and the company would be ramping up efforts over the coming weeks progressing to Quaama, Verona, Brogo, Wandella, Yowrie, Bemboka, Wyndham and Mt Darragh.
Ms Koloff said inspections take place on properties with registered residents who will discuss the scope of the program with Laing O'Rourke and agree to what the clean-up will encompass, after which an agreement can be signed and commencement of works scheduled.
The clean up process may include:
- Removal of known hazardous materials, including asbestos;
- Removal of materials destroyed by bushfire and hazardous trees;
- With consent of building owners, the removal of concrete slab foundations.
Laing O'Rourke will work with Far South Coast subcontractors and regional small businesses to ensure they are engaged in the delivery of the clean-up process - providing much-needed stimulus to local economies.
Ms Koloff said residents needed to be mindful of the requirements for heavy machinery to gain clear access to sites and should discuss any potential access issues prior to inspection.
She said crucially, those interested in participating in the program who have not yet registered can do so on the Service NSW website or by calling 13 77 88.
If needed Laing O'Rourke can be contacted directly on 1800 007 539.
