Tammy Edmonds is taking a 'journey to remember'.
It's a charity run/walk spanning more than 500km that is aimed at helping to raise funds and awareness of dementia.
"My family was touched by dementia when my Gran was diagnosed around 10 years ago, passing away in November 2018," Ms Edmonds said.
"Watching the effects of dementia on my Gran and our family and friends has made me want to start raising money for Dementia Australia to help those suffering from dementia and to raise awareness in the community."
This month brings about the end of a four-year journey as part of Run Down Under for Ms Edmonds, but she is putting extra focus on the final leg.
"I will be reaching the end of my four year journey - a journey that virtually sees people run or walk their way around Australia, totalling 14,080km," she said.
"When I reach the NSW / Vic border on February 12th, I will have 525km to go and I will then be actually running/walking this journey to Sydney.
"Over 11 days I will average 50km per day running and walking to Sydney."
With the recent Bushfire crisis Ms Edmonds said she would be starting as close to the border as possible depending on any road closures.
And a band of family and friends have rallied behind her cause where she will be picked up and dropped off each day .
"Each night I will come home to Bega until I get past Batemans Bay where I will start to stay along the way in motels or caravan parks."
Ms Edmonds has created a Facebook Page named Tammy's Journey to Remember, where she said she hopes to promote the towns along the trip on the page as well as Instagram.
"Myself and the support crew will also be spending some money along the journey to try and help out the communities," she said.
Ms Edmonds said she would start the final 525km journey on Wednesday and hoped to reach Sydney by Saturday, February 22 with daily goals plotted for the past few months.
Ms Edmonds said she hoped to honour the memory of her Gran with the journey and also help in some small way to those afflicted by dementia.
Worldwide someone is diagnosed with dementia every three seconds and there is no cure. Currently more than 450,000 Australians are living with dementia.
She has set up a Dementia Australia Memory Walk and Jog fundraiser and if you would like to help you can donate at https://www.memorywalk.com.au/fundraisers/tammyedmonds.
