If agreed it would mean that all ratepayers would receive rate relief for the last two quarters of the year.
The NSW Government has announced six months of council rates relief to ease the burden for anyone who has lost their home or small business in the recent bush fires, but council wants to see the measure extended to all Bega Valley ratepayers given the extent of the crisis in the shire.
The motion was part of a suite of points relating to the waiving of fees and charges, much of which related to those directly affected by the bushfires.
A water charge waiver will provide a $50 credit for any user where usage has increased by more than 10 per cent above the previous three year average. The waiver will apply to the last quarter which will run up to the middle of January capturing the extra water many people used during the worst of the bushfires.
As occurred following the Tathra fires, council aims to provide the same level of fees and charges waiver for lost who have lost their homes covering DA fees, inspections and credits relating to sewerage.
Council has also voted to waive library charges for books where a customer has lost their home and proposes to provide free access to swimming pools for fire affected families.
Some of the changes rely on responses from state government and some changes will require exhibition for 28 days.
Cr Robyn Bain also asked that "all landlords follow councils path in terms of rent reductions in the immediate future" and encouraged the state government to reduce payroll tax for employers for the next three months.
Mayor Kristy McBain said that council wants to work with the community to make sure no one is left behind.
"Those who have paid rates will receive a reimbursement. I agree with the sentiments on landlords but I do so cautiously because there's not one person that has not been affected by these fires," Cr McBain said.
