This time he brought along two fellow Olympic swimmers in Josh Beaver and Jarrod Port to provide a free fun afternoon for the kids and help raise spirits.
After hosting a skills clinic for the Cobargo Amateur Swimming Club in November, Magnussen said he was horrified to see news reports of the damage to the town.
"I had seen a little bit [of the bushfire crisis] back near my home town of Port Macquarie, but turning the TV on and seeing the main street of Cobargo and all the houses burned it was pretty emotional given that I had been here not long ago," Magnussen said.
"Straight away I knew I wanted to come back down and help out in some way shape or form and I reached out to the committee at the swimming club and I was pleased to hear the pool was still intact.
"So I thought it would be nice to come back for a visit."
Olympic swimmers Josh Beaver and Jarrod Port joined Magnussen in saying they were self-confessed country boys themselves and wanted to help in some small way to those hit by bushfires.
So they were quick to jump on board for Magnussen's visit with the trio also bringing gifts for the kids thanks to Swimming NSW.
Almost 60 kids took part in the free fun session at the Cobargo Pool with each being given new caps and a pair of Speedo Opal Mirror goggles valued around $40.
Magnussen said it had been a difficult drive from Sydney, seeing some of the worst-hit areas of the coast.
"It has been pretty confronting to see [the destruction] even coming through some of the towns like outside Moruya we saw a lot of burnt down houses and paddocks, that is people's livelihoods, but it makes what we're doing today all the more worthwhile."
Magnussen said he and the kids had enjoyed a "good bit of fun" during the swim clinic, but Sunday's session was all about putting a smile on the kids' faces. "Today is much about raising spirits as anything," he said.
Swim club president Beck Grenfell thanked the Olympians and said they had been charming and enthusiastic on the day.
