On Wednesday, the Tathra Headland Walkway was officially opened by Bega Valley Shire Mayor Kristy McBain, Member for Bega Andrew Constance and NSW Senator Jim Molan.
Mayor McBain said the project had been "long and hard fought for by the community" and she thought the local contractor had done "an amazing job".
In 2016, the Tathra Headland Wharf Access Group proposed the project to council, which unanimously endorsed the idea.
Last year council was awarded $1.2million in funding from the NSW government under the Regional Growth - Environment and Tourism Fund for the walkway.
Running around the headland, it has also replaced the Lions Lookout that was destroyed in the 2018 Tathra district bushfire.
Speaking to the large crowd that had gathered for the official opening on Wednesday, Mr Constance said the walkway was a "very special piece of infrastructure".
"What a fitting tribute to the Tathra community post-fires to see this come to life," he said.
