The Bureau of Meteorology stated a severe heatwave started on the Far South Coast on Tuesday and predicted it to ease on Friday.

Temperatures are predicted to reach a high of 36 degrees Celsius in Bega on Wednesday, as well as 28 degrees in Merimbula and 29 degrees in Eden and Bermagui.

On Wednesday, NSW Rural Fire Service district officer Far South Coast Garry Cooper said since 7am the fire service had received multiple calls about concerns due to the smoke across the region.

But he said there were no fires burning burning in the Bega Valley and the smoke was drifting south from the Currowan, Shoalhaven and other fires up north.

"Our message to the community is stay alert, if you see a large column of smoke or unattended fire ring Triple Zero, otherwise there's no need for concern," he said.

"The smoke will linger until significant wind blows it out again."

There were two white alerts placed on the RFS's Fires Near Me app and website on Wednesday morning in the Bega Valley.

Mr Cooper said one was a report of smoke from the northern fires, while the other was an unattended campfire on a beach near Cuttagee that had not been fully extinguished.

"If you had any campfires over the past few days make sure they are fully extinguished and not left unattended," he said.

The RFS has issued a state-wide total fire ban for the next four days, and on Wednesday the Far South Coast's fire danger rating was categorised as very high.

For Thursday the BOM has issued a strong wind warning for the Eden coast, and overall temperatures are predicted to also be high.

The maximum temperature forecast for Thursday in Bega is 37 degrees Celsius, 32 in Merimbula and Eden and 33 in Bermagui.

Mr Cooper said conditions would be challenging on Wednesday and Thursday, with a slight reprieve on Friday, before they increased back to being challenging on Saturday.
