From June 2, people will be able to take their eligible recyclable items to a Containers for Change refund point, including over-the-counter depots with immediate refunds, a "drop and go" facility with refunds deposited into bank accounts, and reverse vending machines.
Environment Minister Stephen Dawson said beverage containers made up 44 per cent of all litter by volume in WA.
He said the scheme would help divert waste from landfill and create 500 jobs, particularly for people with a disability and the long-term unemployed.
The minister said the government aimed to deliver the best container deposit scheme in the nation, including the best access to refund points, and the start date allowed time to organise infrastructure and staffing.
