Held over three days, twice a year, tens of thousands of donated books cycle through the Bega Showground pavilion in the Rotary Club of Bega's major fundraiser.
Last winter's sale raised more than $13,000 for community projects, with substantial donations made to the Community Carers Accommodation, Tathra bushfire recovery, Tathra Nippers, Teen Clinic, Community Aged Care as well as the End Polio program and Australian Rotary Research into mental health.
This year's winter book fair will be held from July 5-7, opening at 9am each day and closing up at 1pm on the Sunday.
The books are all good quality and cover all topics to suit all ages, both fiction and non-fiction categories. Patrons are invited to bring along a shopping bag and fill it, deals will be made on the day. There will also be books donated by renowned authors like Jacki French with proceeds going toward the Tathra and district's bushfire recovery.
EFTPOS facilities will be available and entry is by gold coin donation.
Proceeds from the sales are allocated primarily to local community and youth projects. The main recipient for the winter book fair this year will be Teen Clinic.
Teen Clinic is a fantastic free service that provides local teenagers with advice on subjects and situations they may not necessarily like to discuss with parents or their carers. It's an opportunity for them to talk to a nurse about a range of issues in a non-judgemental environment.
While you are at the fair be sure to support the local youth organisations by enjoying something from the barbecue and purchasing something delicious from the cake stall on Friday and Saturday.
