Bega Valley Shire Council's Further Education Scholarships, which support young people seeking professional qualifications and careers while living in the region, were presented on Wednesday.
Yuin, Djiringanj and Yorta Yorta woman Lesley Darcy-Briggs won a $500 scholarship which she said she would use for her and her son's school expenses.
She was hoping to study commercial cookery.
"I want to do whatever it takes to be a chef, have my own business and help other Indigenous youth who look to do the same career as myself," the 25-year-old said.
"I just know a lot of Indigenous youth who are also relatives and I've seen them have nothing really to do and not many plans.
"Maybe what I do can help encourage them to do something instead of getting in trouble. I just want to help my people."
Kayla Hempenstall of Millingandi received a $500 scholarship which she said she would use to pay for her Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
"I would like to open up my own childcare centre in a lot of years to come," the 24-year-old said.
"I just enjoy working with children."
Andrew Holka of Bega was awarded a $1000 scholarship which he said he would use to buy suits for interviews so he could present himself better at job interviews.
While the 23-year-old has completed a Bachelor of Business, he said he has struggled to find employment so his plan is to work and save money so he can go back to university and study to become a teacher.
"Looking for a job is demoralising," he said.
