Playing host to the Wolumla Tigers on Sunday, the Eden club collected the first round points in both the women's and reserve grade draws.
Wolumla women's coach Kirsty McPaul said Eden were worthy opponents in the ladies draw, scoring a 1-0 win off a "superb header" from a corner kick.
The long-standing rivals both posted new-look outfits for the tie, but the Killer Whales still retained plenty of form from their previous premiership winning rosters.
Meanwhile, Eden got the better of the Wolumla outfit with a 2-1 scoreline in the reserve grade.
Wolumla left-foot striker James Poso was the goal kicker for the visitors.
Eden club officials said 'Shayno' had a cracking shot on goals after beating a defender for one of Eden's two.
A spokesman said he sent a shot sailing across the face of the net to curl past the outstretched glove of the Wolumla keeper to find the corner of the net.
Meanhile, the Tigers suffered a 3-1 loss to Merimbula in first grade, which came as a bit of a surprise for last year's grand finalists.
Tigers coach Luke Adams said his boys had performed admirably and fired plenty of attacking opportunities against Merimbula, but didn't get to make many stick.
"We had more cracks on goal than they did and the boys played really well," Adams said.
New starter Jose Tarin was the goal-scorer, while Matt O'Reilly had a best on ground run for the Tigers.
Tathra United played host to the Pambula Penguins across all grades, which officials said included the under 12s, under 14s, reserves, firsts and all-age women's.
A spokesman said the highlight was that the United firsts opened the season with a good win 3-1 against the Penguins.
"Tathra led 1-0 at half-time after Ben Deighan scored," the spokesman said.
United extended their lead after the break.
Then, all but sealing the win, a cracking break down the right edge provided Ned Povel enough room to move and scoring the third of the day.
"That was a great goal right before Pambula pulled one back late on," the spokesman said.
"Unfortunately, Pambula posted wins in the other games."
Bega had the bye in the opening round of the first grade and women's contest, but are anticipating a start this Sunday with the first grade lining up for their premiership title defence.
The Killer Whales will be at Bega's George Griffin Oval for the under 16s, reserves and all-age women's on Sunday.
